Quick writing prompt

 20MIN

  1. Your character’s life is extremely mundane, until a stray dog starts showing up on their front porch every day.

Lily reveled in the extraordinary quiescence that took place each dawn at the new house. Not a single thing stirred; it appeared that even the squirrels stilled on the fence as she went for her stroll like the little erect babushka trinkets in Grandmother's home. Every now and then a browning leaf or two would waver, but mornings in the neighbourhood were filled with such little life and she liked it that way. It was mundane, but it was Lily. So imagine her alarm when one day the girl, rising particularly early, headed out to see a ragged-ear mutt bounding at the squirrels. Her pleasant countenance shattered; she promptly rushed out and hissed at the dog with burning eyes. And as the girl leered at it menacingly, its tail drooped glumly between its legs as it hobbled back down the sidewalk.

However, this did nothing to stop its return the next day. And the next. If you were there to witness their now-daily interactions, the eager pup perched on the doorstep of an irritable Lily, mug of coffee in hand and scowl plastered on her face, you might have had found it slightly endearing-and perhaps a little laughable. But the girl who had become accustomed to shuffling out regularly in her tattered bathrobe to swat a stray away would have much rather thought otherwise. Nothing more could exacerbate the bubbling loathing that churned in Lily Lockburn's stomach than the bright-eyed dog on her doorstep.

Analytical Writing test-Is internet good for children?

 30MIN

Eyes glued to their screens, the future generation's lives are at stake as long as we let them continue scrolling on their devices. Are you really going to go to the effort of birthing and raising a child just to give them a tablet or phone and rot their brain cells? Malicious, money-hungry salesmen will go to great lengths to tell you that somehow the internet is good for children-but one look at the real facts will be all that you need to prove them wrong. What this generation truly needs is real education and dedicated teachers, not for us to rely on artificial intelligence to do all the hard work.

If you truly want the best for your child, it would clearly make sense to do absolutely anything other than chuck an ipad in their direction and hope for the best-it's sad considering a few weekly library trips would do far more than them than scouring for online resources ever would. We're talking children here-not only is simple albeit effective education always accessible whether it be books or in the world around them, but even so-called 'advanced technology' was never even required in the first place. If you have any ounce of sense you'd see that getting them to learn in the real world could get them more active, creative and less likely to even have any trips to the optometrist.

On the other hand, the internet does nothing of the sort and comes with even more negative aftereffects. Have you ever seen professional doctors or health experts rub internet into children's faces, or is it only the few internet articles who claim to know everything? Thanks to the good ol' internet, children can end up misguided, hospitalised or obese and one look at the progress it's been making so far in our society can give you all the facts and statistics you need. How much more proof are you going to need to be convinced?

Speaking of being convinced, think about just how credible the people who sing the praises of the internet are. That's right-they're usually salesmen, or people whose incomes depend on them saying all this. They benefit from what they say, so why should it matter to them whatever happens to your own offspring? However, you can clearly see proof that educated, intelligent people who have contributed to society always recommend reading books-or that they had access to a good teacher or school growing up, not the latest Nintendo gadget. Thus you should always look closer at who's saying what. It could draw the line between your money going in the drain and your family in the streets, or a bright future ahead of your children.

It's clear that we'll be doomed as long as we rely on the internet to give our offspring the nurturing and proper education that they need growing up. Are you going to really turn a blind eye on the professionals who would prefer simple, cheap textbooks and crawl towards the flashy $400 phone just because an online article said so? Are you going to ignore all the progress human society has managed to make without technology and how much that progress has been declining because of technology? If so, then do yourself a favour and ask yourself whether you are even educated enough to be educating your child this way.
